Detox Diet

A detox diet can be a great option to rid your body of toxins and waste.
Everyday  substances like pesticides and insecticides, drugs, exhausts from motor vehicles, and other chemical pollutants enter the body.  Inhaling these toxins - indoor and outdoor, or ingesting them sets one up for health risks.

It is important "however" that you consult with a doctor before going on this rigid plan.  There may be uncomfortable effects on the body.  These include headaches, nausea, weakness, fatigue.  If you should experience these symptoms, go ahead and take some rest.  Resting is good because your goal is to get the body healed and invigorated.

I recommend a day of juice fasting and eating raw green vegetables are good enough to rejuvenate the body.  One should not go to any extreme to rid the body of toxins.  It all depends on the individual though and how much the body needs a detox.  One may want to do 2 - 3 days of detox. The body has organs to "mop up" toxic waste that may result in damage.

These organs are the:
  1. Liver
  2. Kidneys
  3. Lungs
  4. Skin
  5. Intestines
  6. Blood
They all work with each other for the detoxification process of the body. To support this process, eating healthy is a good idea. A glass of freshly juiced cruciferous vegetables may help to detoxify one's body. This juice may be taken every day. This is a safe way to ensure that detoxification of the body takes place. At the same time, the body is receiving nourishment.

If you or family members do not like the taste of the juice, go ahead and eat these vegetables, raw or lightly cooked. To get the full benefits of these foods, it is recommended to eat at least one kind each day. Just make sure "by the end of the week", you have a variety to get all the nutrients and vitamins. Cruciferous vegetables include all of those from the cabbage family.

  • Broccoli
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Bok Choy
  • Cauliflower
  • Kale
  • Turnips
  • Collard greens
  • Radishes
  • Mustard greens
These foods are an excellent part of a detox diet. They offer superb health protection for the body especially from cancers. They are powerful in helping to "blast" away these sicknesses. Cruciferous vegetables contain strong nutrients that have positive effects in fighting cancers. Studies have shown that when cruciferous vegetables - "cabbage at the top of the list" are in the diet, one reduces the chance of getting certain cancers.

For a detox diet, you should try and add these green foods and any other like spinach to a meal. If you do not like the taste of one, try another! It is best not to miss out on the health benefits of these foods. They are rich in nutrients like iron, zinc, vitamins C, A, and E. All of these nutrients nourish and protect the body keeping it healthy. Eating processed foods doesn't provide all the necessary nutrients your body needs. These foods may contain food additives to preserve them longer on the shelves in the stores. Adding these foods to the diet do more harm than good to one's body. They provide little or no nourishment, so it is best to stay away from them. That is why a detox diet at least once each month may be healthy for the body. When you detoxify the body, make sure you don't go back to your old eating habits again. Your goal is to eat a variety of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds every day.
